Anyone who has filled in a loan application by hand knows where the time disappears. Not in the decision, which is usually made long before, but in transcribing an address, a NRIC number, an employer’s name and a monthly figure into boxes, then hunting for a bill to prove each one.
SingPass MyInfo removes a good part of that. It has quietly become the default way applications begin in Singapore, and understanding what it does and does not cover helps you arrive prepared for the part that still needs you in person.
What MyInfo does
MyInfo holds personal details already verified by government agencies and releases them, with your consent, to a service you are applying to. The SingPass service for individuals describes the benefit plainly, as a way to “save time and avoid errors in form-filling by providing your details with one click”.
For a lender, the useful word there is errors. A mistyped digit in an identification number or an address that no longer matches your records creates a query, and queries add days to a file that would otherwise have moved.
Data drawn straight from official records arrives already consistent, which is a large part of why fast loan approval became realistic for straightforward applications. The form is not merely quicker to complete; it starts out correct.
Where the time goes in an application
Mapping the stages makes it clear which ones MyInfo touches. Understanding the steps in the loan approval process shows how much of the clock sits in verification instead of assessment:
- Completing the application with accurate personal and employment details.
- Evidencing income, usually through payslips, CPF records or a Notice of Assessment.
- Verification of identity and address against official records.
- Assessment of affordability against existing commitments and the statutory borrowing limits.
- The in-person meeting, the explanation of terms, and the signing of the contract.
MyInfo compresses the first and the third. It does nothing to the fourth, which is a matter of judgement, and it cannot touch the fifth at all.
The step MyInfo does not remove
Licensed lending in Singapore is deliberately not a fully remote process. A loan is discussed and signed in person at the lender’s licensed place of business, and Ministry of Law guidance flags approving a loan over the phone, by SMS or by email before an application has even been received as a marker of a lender not doing its job properly.
Treating that meeting as an obstacle misreads it. Someone sits with you, goes through the interest basis, the fees, the tenure and the instalment, and answers the questions that only occur to you when the numbers are on the table in front of you. That conversation is where most misunderstandings about a loan get resolved before they can become problems.
Our office is at City Plaza in Geylang, a few minutes from Paya Lebar MRT, and we publish our hours so you can plan the visit around a working day. Applicants who want to see where a lender operates before sharing anything can simply come and look, which is one of the practical advantages of borrowing from a money lender residents can walk into.
What to bring even after using MyInfo
MyInfo carries identity and address, but income evidence still comes from you. Recent payslips on a company letterhead, CPF contribution history for salaried applicants, and a Notice of Assessment for anyone self-employed all remain part of the picture. Bank statements help where monthly pay moves with commission, overtime or allowances.
Bringing more than the minimum tends to shorten the conversation instead of lengthening it. A lender assessing an uneven income against a single payslip has to ask questions; the same lender looking at six months of statements usually does not need to. Where a bonus or a commission cycle makes one month look unrepresentative, the statements are what put it back in context.
Speed, described honestly
Same-day disbursement happens regularly for applications that arrive complete, and it is a real part of what we offer. It is not a promise we can make to any individual reader in advance, because it depends on eligibility, on the documents being in order, and on the in-person verification and signing being completed. Any lender presenting a timeline as guaranteed before seeing your file is telling you something it cannot know.
Security, and why the channel is the point
Handing personal data to a lender is a reasonable thing to think twice about. Using MyInfo means the transfer happens through the same authenticated channel you already use for government services, with the fields you are consenting to release shown to you before you approve them.
On our side, Orange Credit is Cyber Essentials certified, and we have handled applications this way since long before it became common, with more than 15,000 loans served since 2012. We prefer a borrower to understand exactly which data has moved and why, because a person who feels informed at the application stage tends to ask better questions at the signing.
There is a practical argument for a verified channel too. Documents photographed and sent through a messaging app pass through services nobody in the transaction controls, whereas data released through MyInfo moves once, to a named recipient, with your consent recorded against it. Where anyone asks you to send identification through an informal channel before you have met a soul, that is a fair moment to pause and check the Registry of Moneylenders instead.
Conclusion
Technology has taken the tedious parts out of borrowing and left the parts that genuinely need a person. That seems like the right division of labour, and it means the time you spend is spent on the decision itself.
If you would like to begin with MyInfo and finish the conversation face to face, our team at Orange Credit is ready when you are. Start online at your own pace, bring your income documents to the office at City Plaza, and we will take you through the terms carefully before anything is signed.
